Książka dwujęzyczna For Polish art, the Lithuanian Stasys is what the Spaniard Picasso, the Italian Modigliani or the Russian Jews Chagall, Zadkine and Soutine were for the Paris School - Jerzy Turowicz. I love paper, its tough surface. Applying the chalk to it, I touch it with my hand, with my fingers, as a pianist the piano keys. I bring out different shapes on the surface of the sheet, resembling a nose, a mouth, eyes which together form the outline of a face. I have always had my ouwn visions, my favourite motifs, my own way of dancing with the pastel. Rejecting every kind of dependence outside of art, I create, touching the rough surface of the paper and breathing chalk-dusty air. - Stasys Eidrivicius. Text in Polish and English.
