Sons of the Forest is an open-world survival horror game developed by Endnight Games and published by Newnight, the sequel to The Forest. Stranded on a remote island inhabited by cannibals and mutated creatures, players must build, craft, fight, and explore to survive, either alone or in up to eight-player cooperative multiplayer. The game launched in Steam Early Access on February 23, 2023 and reached its full 1.0 release on February 22, 2024 for Windows PC .

Base building is optional but central to the experience: you can cut timber, fit pieces together, and gradually turn an exposed campsite into a fortress your group can defend, or stay on the move with a simple tent, while the cannibals' raids and the fact that they cannot swim shape where to settle. In co-op, one player can gather supplies while another works on walls, floors, and defensive approaches, making teamwork a major part of the fun .
StoryThe story sends you on a mission to find a missing billionaire on a remote island, but what begins as a search quickly turns into a desperate fight to stay alive. Beyond the cannibal tribes that stalk the forest, the island hides bunkers, caves, and dark secrets that reward those who dare to dig deeper. Your choices decide how the adventure ends, with the 1.0 update expanding the story, giving Timmy a larger role voiced by Shawn Ashmore, and adding a proper conclusion for the campaign .
GraphicsSons of the Forest delivers a dense, atmospheric island environment with dark caves, thick forests, and eerie lighting that reinforce the game's sense of dread. Detailed survival animations, a more believable AI for its cannibals and creatures, and freeform log-by-log construction make the world feel reactive to every action, from the way you build a shelter to how enemies respond to your defenses. The game runs on Windows 10 and 11 and is not available on macOS, Linux, or consoles .
